Gaits of Freedom Therapeutic Riding at Camp Marshall

Safe - Fun - Effective !

Gaits of Freedom lessons are designed to help children and adults with physical, social , and cognitive disabilities. Therapeutic riding activities promote balance, coordination, posture, self esteem, confidence, and muscle strengthening.

What to expect: NARHA ( North American Riding for the Handicapped Association) certified and MA Licensed riding instructor will evaluate all new riders. The rider's will be placed into an appropriate level based on his/her ability and or safety. There will be a horse leader, and a side walker to help each rider. The rider's ability and goals achieved will be assessed (all riding sessions) throughout all riding session.

The sessions will be 30 minutes with a detailed lesson plan. All riders' must wear an ASTM-SEI certified riding helmet (provided). All riders must wear long pants- preferably jeans.

If there are any sensory issues that would pose a problem, we can work with you to help the rider to tolerate the helmet, horse, or barn enviroment.

Parents and caregivers have noted that their children benefit in many ways from Therapeutic riding.

The movement of the horse enables the rider to play games, participate in activities that enchance sensory integration, challenge their ability to follow instructions and most importantly the rider experiences a sense of physical freedom and has fun.
