Horse Facilities
4-H Camp Marshall is proud of it horse facilities. The main facilities have 72 box stalls, 4 sand riding rings, indoor arena and miles of nature trails. 4-H Camp Marshall also has a separate facility specially designed for our Saddle Up and Young Rider Program. The beginner facilities have a small riding ring and a 6 stall barn. This facility is in a quiet place at camp conducive for those kids just learning horsemanship and riding skills.
Horse Program Goals
1. Development of individual riding skills. Campers will be placed in riding classes appropriate to their riding level according to the riding assessment form and Instructor evaluation. Campers will receive a riding progress report at the end of the week so campers and parents can see the progress made.
2. Expand knowledge of equine science through horse management and care classes.
3. Learn responsibility through daily care of assigned horse.
4. Demonstration of skill. Campers with their Instructor will develop a riding demonstration for Friday’s Demo Day.
5. Have fun with horses in a safe and nurturing environment.
Horse Masters Program
All potential Horse Masters MUST have a letter of recomendation from a Trainer stating they qualify for this program to be sent along with thier final payment.
Which Program should i put my child In?
Please view the Riding Assesment Form: Click Here , to see where you think would best fit your child. Each rider is given a riding evaluation on Sunday in the following programs: In the Saddle, Horse Lovers, Bring your own Horse or Horse Masters. Day Campers are also required to have this evaluation done on Sunday at approximately 2:00pm. Please note that once evaluations are complete and the barn staff meets, if thier is any safety concerns parents will be notified if any change of program is needed. If you are unsure and would like to schedule a half hour evaluation for $20.00, please contact Sam. Students will still be required to do the Sunday evaluation during the camp sessions.
What shots are required for my horse ?
1. A current Coggins with in 1 year in state, 6 months our of state
2. Rabies
3. Strangles
4. 4 Way ( EEE,WEE,Flu,Tetnus)
Do you need to purchase riding apparel and a helmet ?
The only required equipment is a boot with a 1 inch heel. We do have helmets available for campers to borrow for the week.
If i have a helmet can i bring it ?
Of course you can bring your own helment, we will be checking helmets to make sure that they are safe and not passed thier expiration date.
Why do i have to fill out the Head Gear Form if i have my own helmet?
We require every camper to fill out this form, as we would hate to have a camper miss ride time due a lost helmet or waiting for a replacement.
What time are the Riding Demo's on Friday?
All Demo's will start at 3:00 this year,saddle Up and Young Riders will be held at the New Rider Facility and all other programs will be at the large ring area.
